President's Corner

Kathy-Ann Murray, M.S., CCC-SLP

SCCSHA President 2025–2026

Dear Colleagues,

As we move into the winter season, I want to take a moment to express my appreciation for everyone who joined our events during the Fall. In September we had a mixer at the Testarossa Winery in Los Gatos where we were able to meet and mingle with different professionals. We had our Fall workshop in October with presenters Mai-Ling Chan and Garrett Oyama who shared about Artificial Intelligence in Speech-Language Pathology and about Music and the Careful Adoption of Technology in our field. We are deeply thankful for the valuable resources shared and for the opportunity to connect with such a committed community of professionals.

Looking ahead, the SCCSHA board is excited to invite you to our upcoming Winter Workshop. We are excited to welcome Rachel Archambault, a speech-language pathologist and consultant for trauma-informed care. Rachel was an SLP at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, when an internationally publicized traumatic event happened at her workplace in 2018.

As SLPs we work with many individuals from different backgrounds and circumstances and trauma-informed care is essential to help build trust and reduce barriers to communication. Additionally, understanding how some harmful or negative experiences can influence language development, social interaction, attention, and an individual' s ability to participate fully in therapy. During our Winter Workshop Rachel will share about Trauma-Informed Care for SLPs Working with Clients/Students and Supervision, Management and Working with Other Professionals through a Trauma-Informed Lens.  We hope you'll join us for this informative virtual event on Friday, January 30, 2026. To reserve your spot, visit our website at https://www.sccsha.org/workshops

As we continue to bolster our association, we are currently seeking candidates to fill several board positions at the end of this year. We are looking to fill the positions of Treasurer and Newsletter Editor. If you are interested in getting involved and making a meaningful impact, we encourage you to reach out.

Wishing you a restful holiday season filled with joy, connection, and well-deserved moments of rest as we look ahead to the new year!
